Well, either you are one of the lucky ones who wasn’t forced into this humiliating P.E. experience or you were born after 1985 in which case it was already banned from schools to save your self esteem.
Dodgeball, (bombardment, war ball, prison ball, etc) is a game that is mostly played in physical education classes in elementary school. Two teams of equal size face off in gymnasium, armed with red rubber balls. Players try to eliminate the other team by throwing the balls at their opponents. Players are called “out” if hit with the ball and are banished to the “out line.” The team who eliminates their opponents first is the winner. For more information on Recesstime Dodgeball practices, check out our rules.

We play on several gyms in schools and recreational facilities around the Portland metro-area. Check the schedule page for exact locations and game times.
Registration opens approximately six weeks before the season starts.
Go to the registration page and create a team. There, you will create a team code, which you will send to your potential teammates. Your teammates will sign up under your team and you will be notified. You may also check your roster and players’ contact information by logging into the registration page to view your team.
As a courtesy, please email us and let us know your team name and on a scale of 1-5 how likely this team of yours is to actually take the court come time. (1 being “just curious” and 5 being “we have been shining our biceps since middle-school just waiting for the chance to take the court again!” )
Typically, teams range in size from about 10-14 players. Since you host 8 players on the court at a time, you want to make sure that you have subs available. If you need help with extra players, we always have independents looking to join a team! Teams are capped at 14 players. Check out the FORUM on for free agents or teams looking for players.
Sorry… co-ed or bust! If you check out the rules page you must have at least three males and three females on the court at all times.
$65 will get you on a team, a t-shirt and into the lively end-of-season party!
Yup… on the last day of the season, we’ll have our end of season tourney to determine the season champion. That night we’ll celebrate the season and crown Dodgeball King and Queen.
We accept registration on line, its quick and easy, just like us! Click dodgeball above, then registration. If you just want to get on a team, select that you’re a free agent, but, ideally, you should advertise a bit about yourself in the FORUM (Do you like Pina Coladas? And getting caught in the rain?) to make sure you get on a team that you like.
Sure thing, we always have time for the press, please contact our league manager or founder at
If you are looking for info on that other sport that handles big rubber balls, please email
IF YOUR QUESTION WASN’T ANSWERED, PLEASE EMAIL US AT AND WE’LL HELP IN ANY WAY WE CAN.
