Portland’s oldest and largest kickball tournament starts tonight, August 15th at Bloomington Park. All teams that participated in the Recesstime Kickball summer season will be ranked and given their shot and eternal playground glory.

Games start tonight and continue through Saturday at Bloomington and Lents Park, the final game will be at Bloomington Park at 5:15 PM.

Players and their guests are invited to the End of Season party at Old Town Pizza on NE MLK. The party begins at 7:00 PM.

End of season awards will be announced at approximately 9:30 PM. We have some fabulous raffle prizes from our fantastic sponsor, Budweiser. Thanks for another great season and best of luck to all teams this weekend! Bracelets are required for entry, please see your captains’ packet (picked up at the field prior to your first game) for your team’s bracelets, raffle tickets, field map and bracket.

The Mid Season Mixer is Coming For YOU!

While we at RSL aren’t the type to fall into hyperbole and over hype things, we are happy to announce that the Mid-Season Mixer this Saturday is going to be the best party in the history of the world ever. EVER. Do you want to have to explain to your kids 20 years from now why you weren’t at the “Great Mixer of ‘08”? Can you handle the moment when they look at you and say “Not cool, man. Not cool.” Well then don’t!

This Saturday the 12th, you are cordially invited to join your fellow kick-mericans for a few old favorites, and a couple new ones too. The fun begins at noon with food, fun, and games. What more do you need at noon on a glorious Saturday? Oh yeah, did we mention there will be a ton of FREE beer?

1pm- 2nd Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest
1:15- Flip Cup Contest
2pm- Das Freakin’ Boot!

Prizes will be awarded for the winners of all events! We have some awesome stuff to give out! Everyone is welcome, but prize events are for Recesstime members only, so be sure to get your team’s ladies and gents signed up for the Das Boot competition, we’ll have matching prizes for both genders for that event!

Plus there will be badminton, bocce ball, a game called corn hole, water play (for the kids), and naturally some kickball! Pier Park also features an amazing disc golf course with a full 18 holes, and throw in BBQ with Veggie options, and how can you say no? You can’t! That’s how.

Congratulations to the North Portland Children’s Choir who beat out 47 other dodgeball teams to become #1 in the Spring Recesstime Dodgeball Tournament! It was a long road for these choir kids, way to go!

Which team will be wearing read and drinking from this on Saturday? Portland’s biggest and best Spring dodgeball league comes to a close on Saturday with the End of Season Tournament at The Courts in Beaverton action starts at 10:00 am with the Championship game slated for 4:00 pm.

The official bracket will be out as soon as possible once the games are finished on Thursday (you can start bugging us after noon on Friday, k?). Get ready to spend the day playing some fun, intense dodgeball and cheering on all the teams in the road to the Championship! Don’t forget about the after party either.

The party will be at the The Crown Room, doors open at 7:00 PM. Bracelets will be required for entry; each team will be given their packet of bracelets at the tourney. You may purchase bracelets at the door for $5.00.

RSL is looking for some extra kickball help this season. We’re starting a new
operations/fun committee for 2008 – all positions start in Summer and go through Fall, so
all committee members must be free on Sundays starting September.

Operations Managers:
You’re the eyes and the ears of Recesstime kickball, when you aren’t at the fields
reminding refs and players where to go and when, you’re emailing field managers and ref
chairs about where to go and when. You make sure the kickball fun is on schedule.
Hours dependent (4-10 hours/week)
Openings 2 – one for each summer night

Ref Chairs/Rules Committee
Are you constantly finding loop holes in our rules? Do you think you could do a better
job reffing? Do you think you find yourself explaining interpretations of the rules to
newbies? This could be the gig for you.
4-6 hours including field time
Openings: four

Social Committee:
Help find bars, plan parties and offer fun support to the social manager.
2-4 hours including field time
Openings (3) – one per division

Communications committee:
Constantly updating your facebook and myspace pages? Taking pics at the fields and the
bar? Why not do it for us, play for free and earn some extra cash? You’ll support the
communications manager who sends out emails and updates kickball blogs.
2-4 hours including field time
Openings (3) – one per division

Field Managers:
You set up the field, break it down and make sure the field action runs swimmingly.
Some of you have already done this in seasons past, now we’re just giving you a badge.
This position is also open to non-kickballers.
2-6 hours a week
Openings 8 – 2 per division

The swells were rough but these buccaneers finally found their sea legs! Congratulations to the Swashbucklers, Recesstime Kickball’s first and only three time champs!

Predictions call for record breaking highs tomorrow and its supposed to be hot too! HA! Pack a bottle of water with that case of Bud Light, you’re gonna need it. The Spring kickball tournament starts tomorrow morning at 9 AM at Lents field get all of your bracket and field information here.

Get in on Portland ’s biggest and best kickball league! Season runs 10 weeks starting June 11th/12th – August 13/14th . With games between 6:30pm – 8:30pm. EOS Tourney on evening of 8/15 & all day 8/16. With the always festive EOS Party after the championship game!

Cost $55 per person. Registration will go up on June 1st $10…. so get registered. To reserve a team spot, a team must register at least 12 players by 12:00 PM on June 1st. At that point we will start merging smaller teams and placing players in need of a team. Don’t have a team? Go ahead and register…we will find one for you!

Mandatory Captain (or designated attended) meeting will be held the evening of Sunday, June 8th to give you the low down and reconnect & mingle with old and new friends before the season starts. We can’t wait for the fun, sun and kickball!
