KICKBALL FAQ
WHAT IS KICKBALL?
Kickball (courtesy of Wikipedia) is a “playground game” and also a competitive league game, similar to baseball, invented in the United States about 1942. It is typically played on a softball diamond with a 10 to 16 inch inflated rubber ball. The pitcher bowls the ball towards the catcher, and the “batter” kicks it with his foot. Once the ball, is kicked, the batter’s objective is to get to reach base. In addition to tagging a base to get a forced runner out, or getting a runner out by touching him/her with a held ball, fielders may throw the ball at a runner to get him/her out (though hitting a runner above the shoulders with a thrown ball is often either discouraged or illegal; the latter being the more common rule.).

We are Oregon’s original independent kickball league. We’ve been kicking balls and toasting frosty beverages since 2003.
WHO PLAYS RECESSTIME PORTLAND KICKBALL?
We’re a thriving group of players in Portland, Oregon who love kickball and want to spread the joy of our childhood passion with anyone who wants to share a field.
WHEN DO YOU PLAY?
Winter league: January - March
Spring league: March - May
Summer league: June - August
Fall league: September - November
WHERE DO YOU PLAY?
We play at several parks around the Portland metro area.
WHEN CAN I REGISTER?
Registration opens approximately six weeks before the season starts.
I THINK I WANT TO HAVE MY OWN TEAM…HOW CAN I DO THIS?
Go to the registration page and click create a new team. You will create a team code to send to your teammates. They will sign up under your team name and you will be notified. You may also check your roster and players contact information by logging into the registration page to view your team.
HOW MANY PLAYERS ON A TEAM?
Typically, teams range in size from about 13 -18. Since teams field 11 players defensively, you will want to make sure that you have subs available. If you need help with extra players, we always have free agents looking to join a team! Check out our Facebook page to recruit a free agent!
END OF SEASON PARTY?
Yep! On the last day of the season, we will have our end of season tournament to determine the season champion. That night we pick up the tab for beer and food while you and your teammates celebrate victory or wallow in the agony of defeat.
WHAT IF MY TEAM ISN’T SUPER COMPETITIVE?
Recesstime is open to all skill levels! We don’t think your kickball skills should dictate where you socialize. There's a place for everyone to play!
HOW DO I REGISTER?
Have team? Need a team? We can accommodate both! You can just set up your own team and give your friends a secret code to register (all that info here on the registration page). If you just want to join a team, you can register under that team name or as a free agent.
CAN WE BOOZE ON THE FIELDS?
Responsibly, yes. Your league dues help pay for alcohol permits to allow adult beverages on the sidelines. You can bring beer and wine and cheer for your teammates as they bunt, boot and/or rally around the bases on these fields. But leave the hard stuff and kegs at home. Please imbibe responsibly
